Not like this.

Top-five light heavyweight contender Jan Blachowicz was forced to turn down a rematch with Alexander Gustafsson due to an elbow injury.

The 6 ft 2 in Pole posted a Tweet on Sunday blaming his ‘bloody elbow’ for the bad luck.

As alluded to in the Tweet, Anthony ‘Lionheart’ Smith will go on to face Gustafsson instead. Smith will look to spring back into the winners column after his championship loss to Jon Jones at UFC 235. Gustafsson vs. Smith will take place on June 1 at UFC on ESPN+ 10 at Ericsson Globe in Stockholm Sweden.

As for Blachowicz, the 36-year-old didn’t give a timeline for his return but let’s hope his bloody elbow doesn’t keep him out of action for the rest of the year.

The former KSW light heavyweight champion was riding a four-fight win streak before being knocked out by Thiago Santos at UFC Fight Night 145, marking the first knockout loss of his career. Blachowicz lost to Gustafsson back in 2016, when both men fought to a decision in the UFC Fight Night 93 co-main event.

(Bloody Elbow would like to issue an apology to Blachowicz for any inconvenience).
