UFC’s Sara McMann announces pregnancy, has no intention of retiring

Sara McMann is having another baby.

The UFC women’s bantamweight contender announced Wednesday in an Instagram post that she’s 12 weeks pregnant.

“(Partner) Chad and I started trying after my last fight and that SOB knocked me up immediately,” McMann wrote.

The former UFC title challenger suffered shoulder injuries — a torn labrum and rotator cuffs in both shoulders — in her last two bouts, according to herself, so her pregnancy won’t put much of a delay on her MMA career by itself. She would have to take time off due to the injuries even if she wasn’t pregnant.

However, she plans on returning to the cage once she has her second baby. McMann said that her body “handles pregnancy well” and that she will be “training through the majority of it.”

“I have to take time off to get healthy no matter what,” McMann wrote. “I’m 37 and I’m getting too close to the time of possibly not being able to conceive. We decided that it was the right time in all aspects. So, yes I will still be fighting.”

McMann (11-5) is riding a two-fight skid with submission losses to Marion Reneau and Ketlen Vieira. Prior to that, she won three in a row.
