The World Boxing Council’s first champion, Ultiminio Ramos who won the featherweight title in 1963, had hands like coal buckets, and he put them to good use with his prodigious KO punching power.
Forty of his fifty five wins were via KO, often with a single blockbuster! He fought the cream of the division including: Mando Ramos, Chango Carmona, Carlos Ortiz and Vicente Saldivar.
Ultimino, died on September 3rd, after a long a courageous battle against cancer. Beloved by fight fans the World over and admired by fellow champions, the man was joyful, witty and irrepressible, outside business hours. While inside the ring, Ultiminio was a pure fireball of punching potency.
At the World Boxing Council’s weekly press conference in Mexico City, where all stood for a ten bells tribute to the great man, it’s President, champions and the press, then marveled as a film was shown, of Ultininio’s greatest hits.
Opponent after opponent was dispatched, with power which was a gift of God. What a fighter and what precious memories!
