Tyrell Fortune’s perfect record will be put to the test against his most experienced opponent yet.
A heavyweight bout between Fortune and Josue Lugo has been added to the preliminary card ofBellator 201, which takes place at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, Calif., on June 29, officials told MMA Fighting on Wednesday.
Fortune, a junior college and Division II national champion in wrestling, made his pro debut with Bellator back in November 2016 and has since defeated all four of his opponents. In his most recent outing at Bellator 193, Fortune defeated Joe Hernandez by unanimous decision.
The 36-year-old Lugo has an 8-3 (1 NC) record in MMA. His 12 pro bouts are more than all of Fortune’s previous opponents combined. Lugo has fought primarily on the California regional scene and has not competed since April 22, 2017, when he defeated Mike Cook by first-round doctor stoppage.
Bellator 201 will be headlined by a women’s flyweight title bout between champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane (7-0) and challenger Alejandra Lara (7-1).
