Unheralded journeyman featherweight Josue “Chino” Veraza (19-8-2, 14 KOs) surprised former world title challenger Romulo Koasicha (25-7, 15 KOs) to claim the vacant WBO Latino title on Friday night at the Auditorio Blackberry in Mexico City.

Veraza dropped Koasicha with a left hook in round two and took the fight to Koasicha the entire night. At the end, Veraza won a ten round unanimous decision by scores of 99-90, 98-91, 99-90. During the postfight interview, Veraza was overcome by emotion after winning his first belt as a professional.
