The retired fighter was at the Amway Center in Orlando, Fla., to watch Josh Emmett take on Jeremy Stephens in the main event of UFC on FOX 28 on Saturday. Unfortunately for Faber, that meant he was perfectly situated to see Emmett lose by second-round knockout.
The finish was not without controversy however, as it appeared that Stephens may have landed an illegal knee to a grounded Emmett after flooring him with a left hook, and may also have connected with elbows to the back of Emmett’s head. Following the fight, former UFC champions Dominick Cruz and Michael Bisping got into a heated debate with UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier over whether Stephens’s having possibly broken the rules, with Cruz standing by Stephens, who happens to train with him at Alliance MMA.
Faber later took to Instagram to offer his take and he wasn’t impressed with Cruz nor Bisping’s assessment of the situation:
“Dominick Cruz and Michael Bisping are f**king blind,” Faber said. “That was a knee to the back of the head. It took a knee to the back of the — an illegal knee to the illegal back of the head. Gimme a friggin’ break. Congratulations to Stephens, he fought a good one.”
Conflict between Faber and Cruz is nothing new. The two feuded for years during Faber’s fighting days, which led to a trilogy of bouts that Cruz would go to win by a score of 2-1.
