We already knew that Jerwin Ancajas would be defending his super flyweight title against Alejandro Santiago on September 28 on ESPN+, but now we can add that super middleweight titleholder Jose Uzcategui will also be in action on that card, albeit in a non-title fight.
Uzcategui (27-2, 23 KO) won’t have his IBF 168-pound title on the line, but he will be in the main event in Oakland, when he takes on Argentina’s Ezequiel Maderna (26-4, 16 KO).
The 27-year-old Uzcategui, a native of Venezuela who fights out of Tijuana, Mexico, beat Andre Dirrell badly for the interim IBF title in March of this year, and was elevated to full champion when James DeGale vacated.
Uzcategui was then set to face Caleb Plant, but Plant got hurt. Obviously, Uzcategui isn’t content to just sit and wait, so he faces Maderna, a 31-year-old veteran you may remember from losses to Artur Beterbiev, Thomas Oosthuizen, or Edwin Rodriguez.
