Former women’s bantamweight title challenger Valentina Shevchenko wants her shot at UFC flyweight gold this June.
Shevchenko revealed in an Instagram post on Monday that she is targeting a fight with current UFC flyweight champion Nicco Montano for UFC 225 in Chicago on June 9th.
“Bullet” made her flyweight debut at UFC Belem in February when she faced UFC debutantPriscila Cachoeira. After a one-sided beatdown, the victory placed Shevchenko as the number one contender in the recently made 125-pound weight class. With a lack of clear contenders in the division, a fight between Shevchenko and Montano seems the most logical one to make.
Montano won the inaugural flyweight title when she beat Roxanne Modafferi by unanimous decision at The Ultimate Fighter 26 Finale in December. She suffered a broken foot in that fight in which she had to undergo surgery for.
UFC 225 takes place at the United Center in Chicago, Ilinois on June 9th. A strawweight matchup between Claudia Gadelha and Jessica Andrade, and a flyweight fight betweenJoseph Benavidez and Sergio Pettis are the only confirmed fights for the card so far.
