In this video interview with Fight Hub TV, Jessie Vargas talks about this weekend’s Showtime main event against Adrien Broner and what a win for him would mean for his career. Check it out…
On the style match-up with Broner:
“Adrien Broner, he is a talented fighter and he comes to fight. I do as well, I’m a very action packed fighter and it’s a great match-up for the fans, it’s a great match-up for me, and I see myself coming out victorious. I just, I trained so well for it. I feel stronger than ever, faster than ever.
“I actually added a nutritionist to this training camp and it’s made a significant difference and I’m happy with how training camp is finishing up…everything is coming along fantastic.”
On if he views this as a mental fight:
“With me every fight is a mental fight. Every fight we have to have our mind in the game, we have to know exactly when to react, what angles we’re gonna come in at, you know, how we’re gonna attack, how we’re gonna defend. So, I mean, you’re gonna see a tactical fight but an action packed fight. I’m always in shape and I’m actually in the best shape of my career now…
“There’s no worries about being fatigued, you know, there’s only a positive mindset. I feel extremely strong, fast, explosive, sharp. I’ve had very good sparring partners that have helped me increase my speed. I got lil’ Devin Haney, he’s a young prospect that has a bright future ahead of him…we’ve prepared well and the fans are gonna enjoy this big fight.”
On if he thinks this fight goes the distance:
“You know what, the minute that I see an opening I’m gonna take it. And if I can take him down and I can finish it early then I will — that’s the plan. But, as of now, we are prepared for a 12-round fight. If it ends sooner than even better for me, you know, because I’m gonna take advantage of it. But I’m looking forward to giving the fans excitement whether it’s by KO or by decision, I’m gonna win.”
On what a win would do for his career:
“A victory against Adrien Broner would just put me in a better position. It’s a big 2018 for me and I look forward to only continuing success. And after April 21st hopefully we get a title shot, which I’m real sure I’ll get a title shot after this.
“But it will mean a lot to me because the fans will be tuning in, I have a lot of people on my side, I have a lot of people cheering for me, and I don’t wanna let ‘em down. That’s why it means so much to me because I wanna make my people proud…”
On if he still wants a shot at Keith Thurman:
“Definitely. I haven’t changed my mind. Then again I’m glad that the fight against Keith Thurman didn’t go through because he ended up having another injury and if I would’ve been lined up to fight him then that would’ve set me back another few months, waiting for him to recover. You know, now we’re in this position, fighting Adrien Broner, where nothing was at risk — thankfully. In the beginning I thought to myself ‘hopefully Adrien keeps himself out of trouble in this training camp’ and he did and now we’re a little over a week left and we’re all set.
“I don’t like looking past my opponent. I do know that once I defeat him there will be a title shot coming but what comes first is Adrien Broner. I take him down in a sensational fashion and then it’s all uphill from there.”
