Puerto Rican Wilfredo ‘Papito’ Vázquez will help add another chapter to the Mexico vs. Puerto rivalry this Saturday in Gómez Palacio, Durango, when he fights former triple world champion Cristian ‘Diamante’ Mijares.
Vázquez Jr. is the son of triple world champion Wilfredo Vázquez, who during his golden age was known as ‘The Pride of Puerto Rico’, and who in the 90s dominated the bantamweight, super bantamweight and featherweight divisions.
The boxer born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico has a professional record of 24 wins, 19 of them by way of the knockout, seven losses and one draw. He’s faced great boxers Juanma López, Fernando Vargas, Marvin Sonsona, Nonito Donaire and Jorge Arce.
Cristian is returning home one last time a a pro boxer and is determined to give his hometown fans a final fight to remember. Wilfredo, who is already in Mexico, and Christian will lead the card of this Saturday presented by Promociones del Pueblo in partnership with Cancun Boxing and Boxing Time.
