Victory In Guangzhou Would Change Yodcherry Sityodtong’s Life

ONE Championship’s female heroes have achieved great things in the promotion. The first women’s ONE Super Series World Championship bout means that trend will continue, and in a headlining spot, no less.

The main event of ONE: BATTLE FOR THE HEAVENS on Saturday, 7 July, will see the debut of one of the most exciting female martial artists in the world – Yodcherry Sityodtong.

The multiple-time Muay Thai world champion will face Chinese Taiwan’s Kai Ting “Killer Bee” Chuang for the inaugural ONE Super Series Atomweight Kickboxing World Title at the Guangzhou Tianhe Gymnasium.

Excited by the opportunity, Yodcherry’s reputation and approach mean fans can expect big things from her promotional debut.

Breaking Boundaries Through Muay Thai

Martial arts fans around the world will be eagerly anticipating the debut of Yodcherry on the global stage of martial arts.

The Thai star is a true prodigy, having amassed an amazing 81-18-1 record while still in her teenage years. The 19-year-old was trained at the world-famous Sityodtong gym – known for training an unmatched number of Muay Thai World Champions.

There were times in her homeland when it became difficult to find other women to compete against, but that was no problem for Yodcherry.

When those opportunities did not present themselves, she faced men in the ring instead – and excelled. In 30 bouts against male opponents, she was defeated only once.

Already with more in-ring experience than many athletes in their entire careers, she is ready to test her skills against the world’s best.

Entering Martial Arts’ Biggest Organization

Despite her success, Yodcherry’s opportunities were still limited in Thailand.

However, by bringing her talents to ONE, she can showcase her talents on the largest stage of all, with her efforts to watched by an international audience of 1.7 billion potential viewers in 138 countries.

“ONE Championship is a global event, and I now have the opportunity to fight there. Any female athlete out there can become successful, just like me,” she says. “My upcoming fight is the biggest in my life.”

Making the step up to the main-event slot in ONE is enough to make even the most experienced athletes anxious. However, Yodcherry has leaned on advice from her teammates at Singapore’s Evolve MMA to mentally prepare for her headlining World Title assignment in Guangzhou.

“I’m excited and nervous, because I have never fought in front of this many people before,” she says.

“Whenever I was at ONE Championship events, I would ask the athletes if they were nervous fighting in front of such a huge crowd.

“Everyone said they were nervous, but they had to fight and to focus up there in the cage. I will control my excitement and do my best.”

A World-Class Opponent

In order to claim the second belt in ONE Super Series, Yodcherry must overcome the challenge of Chuang, a two-time Chinese Taiwan National Kickboxing Champion.

The 23-year-old is not someone the Thai star is taking lightly, but she is confident about getting the victory, and giving fans something to shout about.

“My opponent is really good at striking. We will see in the cage who will lose, and who will win,” she says.

“The bout is going to be an exciting one. I promise that fans won’t be disappointed.”

Yodcherry was known for her aggression and powerful strikes in Thailand, and she believes her skills have improved since heading to train with Evolve’s many Muay Thai World Champions.

Thanks to their help in refining the skills she already possessed, the teenager sees a clear path to victory.

Eyes On The Prize

With preparations going well, a historic achievement is in sight for Yodcherry.

However, World Title belts are a secondary goal for this exceptional young talent.

Competing on the biggest stage and taking top honors give her a unique opportunity to make a living, and support her family back home.

“If I win this ONE Championship World Title, my life would change completely,” she says.

“It will change everything. I will have a better life, and my family will have a better life.”

In addition to the financial stability a World Championship reign will give her, it will also act as validation for her progress as a martial artist.

“If I win, all the things I have done will finally pay off,” she says. “I would be really proud of myself.”
