MANILA, Philippines – There were many different scenarios which could reasonably be expected when Milan Melindo challenged Akira Yaegashi for the IBF junior flyweight title on May 21 in Japan.
Melindo dropping Yaegashi three times to score a first round stoppage probably wasn’t high on the list of expected outcomes.
The 29-year-old from Cagayan De Oro City, Philippines finally made good in his third crack at a world title, cementing his legacy as a world champion. Melindo (36-2, 13 knockouts) stopped by the Elorde Gym at the Five E-Com building in Pasay City, Philippines to watch Manny Pacquiao train for his July 2 fight with Jeff Horn.
