Vitor Belfort’s retirement fight will have to wait.
Belfort’s expected co-main event bout against Uriah Hall has been scratched from the UFC St. Louis card. UFC officials announced the news immediately following Saturday’s weigh-ins. Hall did not weigh-in. Belfort tipped the scales at 186 pounds.
UFC officials did not elaborate on the reason for Hall’s withdrawal.
A featherweight bout between St. Louis-native Michael Johnson and Darren Elkins has been promoted from the televised preliminaries to the main card, while a women’s flyweight bout between Paige VanZant and Jessica-Rose Clark will now serve as the show’s co-main event, perMMAjunkie.
Officials also confirmed that a bantamweight bout between Guido Cannetti and Kyung Ho Kanghas been moved from the Fight Pass prelims to the televised preliminaries.
UFC St. Louis takes place Jan. 14 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo. Veteran featherweight contender Jeremy Stephens and up-and-comer Doo Ho Choi are slated to headline the event.
Belfort, 40, said prior to the event that he planned to retire after his fight with Hall unless he was paid $10 million to compete again, bringing an end to his 21-year career.
