The scores were odd, but it came down to a split draw in tonight’s main event.By Scott Christ@scblh1  Aug 3, 2019, 12:59am EDT

Eva Wahlstrom retained her WBC super featherweight title tonight in an odd split draw against challenger Ronica Jeffrey at Las Vegas’ Thomas & Mack Center, in a UFC Fight Pass main event promoted by RJJ Boxing.

Wahlstrom (22-1-2, 3 KO) won one card 96-94, another was even, and the other had Jeffrey (17-1-1, 1 KO) winning a shutout, 100-90. BLH had it for Jeffrey, too, but by a much closer margin at 96-94.

They’re odd scores, surely, but in a way you can almost see how Lisa Giampa got to her 10-0 card for Jeffrey, as Jeffrey was the consistently busier fighter, and if that’s what Giampa was looking for, Jeffrey was delivering.

But Wahlstrom, 38, had plenty of moments, too, landing good shots and seemingly having more mustard on her shots than the 36-year-old challenger.

“I thought I won the fight. It definitely was a good, good fight, like, a really good fight,” Jeffrey said.

“I think it was even. I just told her she’s my new favorite fighter,” Wahlstrom said. Asked if Jeffrey was her best opponent, Wahlstrom said, “I fought Katie Taylor, like, half a year ago, and I think she’s the best, but maybe (Jeffrey) after.”

Jeffrey said she’d like to do a rematch, while Wahlstrom said she “has no idea” what’s next for her, but saying she’d like to fight again in the United States.

John Vera UD-6 Ravshan Hudaynazarov

Scores were 58-56 across the board, which was fair. This could’ve been even or 4-2 either way, I reckon. Hudaynazarov (17-2, 13 KO) showed a hell of a gas tank — I mean it’s six rounds, but he fought hard — but the power didn’t seem to be there for a guy with that KO percentage. Vera (19-1, 11 KO) nicked it on better skills, I would say. Hudaynazarov is 35 and Vera is 30, so we’re not looking at prospects, really, but this was a really entertaining fight that had me wishing it had been set for 8 or 10 instead of 6.

Jamie Mitchell D-4 Britain Hart

Mitchell came in unbeaten, but was 0-0-1 against anyone who’d ever won a fight before. Now she’s 0-0-2 against anyone who’d ever won a fight before. Mitchell (5-0-2, 3 KO) is 34 so it’s not like she’s some rising star at 118/122, but she was the better technician here. Hart (3-3-2, 2 KO) was the scrappier fighter and made Mitchell fight her fight enough to get out with the draw. Scores were 57-57, 57-57, and 59-55 Mitchell, the even cards much better than the 5-1 Mitchell score.

Trevor Covington UD-4 Ming Freeman

I don’t mean to be a jerk, and the fight was fun enough to watch, but Covington is a 27-year-old flyweight who was making his pro debut here after a short amateur career. After this as a debut, you can write him off. Covington (1-0, 0 KO) was dropped in the opening round, then clearly lost the second, a round where he tried to get Robert Byrd on his side by faking a low blow. But he did come back to deck Freeman (1-4-1, 1 KO) in the third on a clean right hand, and then took the fourth, plus Byrd got in there with a questionable point deduction to tip the scores from what would’ve been 37-37 to 37-36 across the board for Covington.
