DAVAO CITY – Jess Rhey ‘One Man’ Waminal of Bukidnon tries another feather on his cap as he fights Orient and Pacific Boxing Federation no. 7 contender Pete ‘Thunder’ Apolicar of Makati for the OPBF Silver featherweight title on July 3 at IPI Tingub Gym in Mandaue City.
Waminal has won already the interim WBA Asia bantamweight title and the GBO super bantamweight title.
Waminal earned the interim WBA Asia bantamweight title by knocking out Jin Wook Lim of South Korea in the 9th round last Sept. 7, 2018, in Busan, South Korea.
He then beat by a unanimous decision over Sunil Siwach of India last Nov. 23, 2019, in Tagum City. He had no difficulty in beating Siwach.
“Wala man ko nag lisod, nag lisod lang ko kay danlog ang kambas (I didn’t have a hard time, I just had a hard time because the canvas was sliding)”, said Waminal
Waminal and his trainer Jimmy Peleno are leaving for Cebu on June 17.
“Oo ready na ako (Yes I am ready)”, said Waminal.
Waminal is ready to fight Apolinar and has sparred 12 rounds already.
Among those he sparred was Marco John “Pacific Cyclone” Rementizo (12W-3L-0D, 9KOs) and Jaysever “Lion Hearted” Abcede (20W-9L-0D, 12KOs).
“Sa akong umaabot nga dula, buhatin nako ang tanan para madala nako pauli ang belt (In my next game, I will do everything I can to bring home the belt)”, said Waminal.
“Daku ni nga opportunity para sa akoa para ma rated nako sa world (This is a great opportunity for me to be rated in the world)”, he added.
“Puhon og ihatag sa Ginoo para sa akoa (Fill with what the Lord will provide for me)”, said Waminal.
