Promoter Frank Warren has Billy Joe Saunder’s next fight lined up, a super middleweight fight aganst Shefat Isufi, but he says he’s extended an offer to Chris Eubank Jr. for a rematch of their 2014 fight. That offer apparently fell on deaf ears, Warren says.
“We tried to make the Chris Eubank Jr rematch and they didn’t want to know, they don’t want Eubank to fight Billy Joe Saunders under any circumstances,” explained Warren.
“Billy has been very avoided. We signed twice to fight Golovkin and Canelo doesn’t want to fight him.”
Speaking on his own behalf Saunders admits that he had a terrible 2018, both inside and outside the ring, and says he’s determined to turn things around. But as far as big fights for Saunders goes, the crystal ball is looking a little cloudy.
Saunders may be succumbing to his own karma here, based on all the fights he’s pulled out of in the past on top of all of his other antics, but he’s certainly no closer to a marquee fight now than he was over a year ago. So it could well be another dud of a year for Saunders.
