BF featherweight champ Josh Warrington has reportedly suffered a hand injury, leaving promoter Frank Warren to petition the sanctioning body to extend its deadline for his mandatory bout with Kid Galahad. The fight was “signed and scheduled for May 4th,” but now may not take place within the IBF’s required 90 days.

Warrington (28-0, 6 KO) edged Lee Selby by split decision last May, earning the title in his native Leeds. He then received an exemption from the IBF to face Carl Frampton, whom he defeated in Manchester last December, with the stipulation that he immediately begin negotiations with Galahad (26-0, 15 KO). The two sides ultimately went to a purse bid, which saw Warren outbid Eddie Hearn by $240,000.

If worst comes to worst and the IBF do not grant the extension, their next-highest ranked featherweight is 2012 Olympic bronze medalist Satoshi Shimizu (8-0, 8 KO), who could hypothetically fight Galahad for the belt.
