WBC Silver Flyweight champion Muhammad Waseem (4-0, 3 KOs) of Pakistan was accompanied by his world class trainer Jeff Mayweather as he scaled in at 120.8 pounds. This was for the WBC 30-day mandatory weigh-in. The site was the famed Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, Nevada where Waseem is training for his next fight . Waseem will take on WBC #15 world ranked Giemel Megramo (17-0, 13 KOs) of the Philippines. Megramo weighed in at 122 pounds at the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) office in the Philippines . Both fighters were less than the maximum weight allowed by the WBC, 123.2 (10% over 112 pounds) at the 30 day mark. The two will square off November 27th in South Korea. The bout is scheduled for 12 rounds with Waseem’s WBC Silver Flyweight title at stake.
Waseem had a month long of nonstop interviews, meeting with high ranking officials, and meet and greets with his countryman following his history making victory over former world title challenger Jether Oliva (23-6-2, 11 KOs) on July 17 in South Korea. It was a dazzling full 12 round victory peformance by Waseem who entered the bout with just 3 professional fights. The recognition was well appreciated but his promoter Andy Kim (AK Promotions) is hopeful that Waseem’s country will step up for the fighter with more than just verbal support.
This is another step forward for Waseem who is now ranked #9 in the world by the WBC. He is facing a young and hungry Megramo who is ranked #15 in the world by the WBC. Kim knows it is not an easy matchup nor is he looking for one for Waseem. The goal for Kim is a world title fight for Waseem sooner rather than later. These are the types of fights he knows Waseem has to win to get the world title fight. “Waseem has a tough first defense vs Megramo but I am confident he is ready for the task. It is nice to see Waseem getting the respect from his countrymen that he earned and deserves. No other Pakistan born professional boxer has accomplished what he has and in just 4 professional fights. I hope they will step up like many other top fighters’ countries have done and support him with sponsorship, backing, etc…. .” said Kim.
