Gerald Washington challenges for the heavyweight crown of the World Boxing Council against undefeated Deontay Wilder, on February 25th in Alabama.
Washington, a marine veteran, a college football player and now contender for a world title, says: “It’s been a long road for me. I grew up with my mother who is from San Juan de los Lagos, Jalisco, along with my uncles and grandmother.
“I lived on a ranch, I took care of myself, I went to school and we had a restaurant. Arriving in high school, I decided to join the military, and then played football at college. From there I returned to boxing, It is my first love and passion, so when I returned to it I was very happy.”
Aware that the fight against the US heavyweight Olympic medalist and now World Boxing Council champion will define his future, Gerald (18-0-1 and 12 KOs) shows confidence to take the initiative and spring the surprise.
