The team of the World Boxing Association, headed by its president Gilberto Jesus Mendoza, fulfilled a very important day on Sunday by completing in the New York City Marathon. The group ran in honor of the late president emeritus of the WBA, Gilberto Mendoza, and its members all put in great performances.
Mendoza got a time of 5 hours and 7 minutes, while Luis Pabon of the WBA Officials Committee finished in 5 hours and 21 minutes.
Meanwhile, the best time of “WBA Team” was by César Muñoz, the Panamanian coach and runner who crossed the New York Marathon finish line in 2 hours 52 minutes.
“My biggest challenge was presented at 30 kilometers, because I felt very tired in the legs,” said Mendoza. “However, the most important thing was to finish the race and beat our time in previous marathons. This confirms the commitment of the organization to sport in general, intended to foster a healthy life healthy outside the ring and, more importantly, achieving a goal we could dedicate to my father.”
Thus, Gilberto Jesus Mendoza became the first president of a boxing sanctioning body to achieve a feat of this magnitude.
