WBC HUICHOL BELT- A MASTERPIECE GRACIAS TO DON ADOLFO LÓPEZ MATEOS

A poignant Grandfather to Granddaughter generation spanning ceremony at  the Coyoacan Cultural Forum, with the presentation of the WBC, Huichol crafted  “Don Adolfo López Mateos” belt  to his Granddaughter, Giuliana Zolla.

The magnificent only one of its kind,  the exquisite belt was created by Huichol artists to honor President  Adolfo Lopez, who was instrumental in founding the World Boxing Council.  WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman expressed both pride and satisfaction being able to recognize the greatness of Mexico through this belt, that bears the name of  a man who set the sport of Boxing on a new, challenging  and brilliant path of destiny.

He also explained that the belt  was especially created as a recognition to commemorate and add significance to the most emblematic dates of Mexico,  May 5 and September 15.

“Don Adolfo has great importance for the Sulaiman family, and his inspiration motivates us to continue growing as a boxing body, following our basic principles: To dignify the sport and to take care of our boxers.

“We present the Huichol “Don Adolfo López Mateos” Belt.  It is an occasion of mixed emotions, because this belt marks a before and after.  It’s also an icon of culture, which  remains  Intact through time. It’s a belt that takes Mexico into the highest echelons of achievement.

“I want to express my deep gratitude to Giuliana Zolla, Granddaughter of our so admired Don Adolfo, who will cherish this belt until it reaches the Soumaya Museum where it will be temporarily exhibited as a masterpiece which represents the very best of  our Mexico .”

Giulana Zolla who’s a distinguished teacher,  is  extremely pleased with this distinction, but especially grateful to the WBC for paying homage to her Grandfather with this “Magical work of art.”

“My Grandfather was a good man, a man who loved boxing in a passionate way. I am convinced he would wish this belt to represent a change for Mexican boxing.”
