The World Boxing Council organized an important meeting in which promoters from all over the world and members of the International Center for Sports Security (ICSS) participated, with the intention of creating a much-needed conduct protocol.
The participants expressed their growing concern concerning specific moments in the bulld up to boxing shows, especially in situations of interaction between the contestants and their respective work teams.
These tensions are not new, however, the participants stated that the development of a security protocol is now necessary to prevent fights and important events from being cancelled, due to untoward incidents.
Boxers are honourable people who go into the ring to provide for their families and achieve glory; however, the pressure to which they are subjected is significant and considerable. For this reason, it is necessary to think and reflect about close quarter interactions, during weigh-ins and press conferences, to temper common sense and reason.
The ICSS will work to create a document that will include procedures and protocols with the firm intention of continuing to improve our sport, by maintaining its dignity.
