WBC rules to allow Joshua against Fury-Wilder winner

The sanctioning body won’t stand in the way of a mega fight.

The WBC has ruled, essentially, to not get in the way of a potential clash between Anthony Joshua and the winner of the December 1 fight between WBC heavyweight titleholder Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury.

Mauricio Sulaiman had this to say:

“That’s a fight the WBC has just ruled to support. During our convention, a ruling of the mandatory status included the provision of trying to make the winner of Fury-Wilder against Joshua. I’m not certain about any contract. That’s a private agreement, but the WBC is of course the one that orders the fights, so our position is that we want to see the ultimate heavyweight fight, which involves Joshua and involves the WBC champion.”

Joshua holds the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles in the division, and only Wilder has a recognized world title otherwise. A fight between Joshua and the Wilder-Fury winner could easily become the biggest fight of 2019, potentially taking place in April at Wembley Stadium, where Joshua will fight next.

If this fight doesn’t come off, it’s expected that Joshua will rematch Dillian Whyte.
