Our youth is our hope and our future.

With this very much in mind and to the fore, a strong year for the World Boxing Council prodigies.

At the WBC’s 55th Convention, in the exquisite Flame Towers Fairmont Hotel in Baku, Azerbaijan, WBC Youth Chairman Rex Walker reports there have been thirty four fights during 2017, building to the future.

The brainchild of Don Jose Sulaiman, 820 WBC Youth Championship fights have taken place. It all started in Moscow on September 29th 1999, with the fight between Dmitry Kirillov Vs Christopher Denicke.

Of the 103 WBC Youth Champions, no fewer than 83 have gone on to win world titles. Many of them reached the zenith, lifting green and gold belts aloft. From acorns, then saplings to mighty oaks the roll call branches out to include: Samuel Peter, Krystof Wlodarsyk, Chad Dawson, Julio Chavez Jr, Timothy Bradley, Humberto and Jorge “Travieso” Arce.  Proving that the the foresight, forthright wisdom of the WBC, has nurtured, developed and flourished some of the Boxing’s blooming, booming greatest!

At this early stage touching innocence still prevails in the youngsters, who can already deliver mighty blows. Mr Walker smiles as he remembers one youngster setting the tone by asking: “If I win, can I keep the belt?”
