Hard-hitting Ivan Baranchyk showed why they call the ‘The Beast’ tonight on DAZN, battering Anthony Yigit over 7 rounds before he forced a doctor’s stoppage of the fight. With the win, which came right after the 7th round ended, Baranchyk (19-0, 12 KOs) takes home the vacant IBF junior welterweight title and moves on to the World Boxing Super Series semifinals round.
Right hands from Baranchyk had Yigit with a black eye by the second round, and Baranchyk continued to land hard rights which made the damaged eye start swelling even worse. It eventually got to a grotesque point by mid-fight, where Yigit’s vision was seriously compromised.
For anyone not watching the fight. This is the eye injury that was the cause of the fight being stopped. Yigit was a mess.
Yigit continued to battle back as best he could, but he just couldn’t cope with the power of Baranchyk’s punches. When it became more than clear that Yigit was having difficulty defending himself, the fight was called off. Yigit protested, saying that he could still see, but in the post-fight interview he said maybe it was the right decision.
