Weights from Bacolod: Ganoza 104, Zulueta 105 Ready to Rock for ABF 105 Lbs Title

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental — Cris Ganoza (15-1, 8 KO’s) of Cebu’s Big Yellow Boxing Stable came-in one pound lighter at 104 lbs., while hometown Bacolod fighter John Michael Zulueta (7-0-2, 3 KO’s) needed three tries of heavy sweat against the scale, then strip naked to finally make the required 105 pounds to get the hot rumble green-lighted for the vacant Asia Boxing Federation (AFB) Minimumweight belt tomorrow Saturday (June 30) at Gaisano City Mall here in the City of Smiles, Bacolod City Philippines.

During fight time, both warriors are lucky to have experienced coaches in their corners. Ganoza will have on his side his trainer Christopher “Pingping” Tepora, head coach of the Big Yellow Stable of Cebu. Zulueta will count with his coach former fighter Roy “Noy” Sumile of the MP-Highland Boxing Team.

When the first bell sounds, the man in charge of the action will be experienced referee Dan Nietes, uncle of former 3-division champion Donnie Nietes; and May the Best Man Win!

In the chief supporting bout, Super Lightweight Joepher Montano, 22, of Davao City weighed-in at 141 lbs, while late-sub journeyman Danilo Peña of Albay made 142 lbs., for their scheduled 8-rounder combat that might not last the distance.

Also, Jr. Flyweight Ernesto Alera, 23, scaled-in at 109 lbs, while opponent Marlou Sandoval of Siaton, Negros Oriental recorded at 107.5 pounds. Both warriors badly need a win; and are willing to fight for it. In addition to pro fights, a total of fifteen hot amateur matches will excite the fans in attendance. The amateur bouts will feature young promising boxers from all over Negros, a future boxing star might be among them.

In attendance during the official GAB weigh-in ceremony was boxing promoter former GAB Chairman Juan Ramon Guanzon, GAB Chief Secretary Jackie Lou Cacho, fight referee Dan Nietes, Sir Josue Nietes (father of 3-division world champion Donnie Nietes), GAB officials Jocelyn Jochico, Donna Mae Martir, boxing judge Henceboy Celestina of Radio DYRL 1035 AM and boxing judge Gedione Nietes.

The boxing card tomorrow Saturday (June 30) at Gaisano City Mall Bacolod is a co-production of MP-Highland Team, Naris Singwancha Boxing and Guanzon Boxing in collaboration with Bacolod City Mayor Hon. Evelio “Bing” Leonardia.

Fights begin at 4 PM.
