Former king Danny “Swift” Garcia came in successfully against tough Jose Benavidez (27-2-1, 18 KO’s), besting him for a majority decision win to make a huge leap forward in his weight-class: the super welterweight division.
More skilled and effective, the Philadelphia native of Puerto Rican roots dictated the tempo with impressive fighting spirit and generalship, absolutely deserving the win by points at the thrilled Barclay Center in the Big Apple, New York, where the 34-year-old Garcia (37-3. 21 KO’s) has headlined a total of eleven times.
Official scores were clear for Danny Garcia 117-111, 116-112, with judge Mrs. Waleska Roldan inexplicably scoring the fight draw.
In the eyes of fans, the fight was not a draw, was a well-deserved win for the more active and proficient “Swift” Garcia, a fighter and a man who for a period of time has been battling anxiety and depression.
During the post-fight interview with Showtime’s Steve Gray, Danny revealed to fans that he has been suffering of mental issues due to pressures of life, being a father and being a boxer, but he now back in the ring, entertaining fans with boxing, the sport he loves.
It was a rewarding win of the much appreciated Boricua fighter whose aim is to battle the toughest possible lions in the 154-pound division, wanting to be champion of the world again.
