Whyte: I’ve got no sympathy for Wilder

Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte says he doesn’t feel bad for Deontay Wilder being unable to land his coveted fight with Anthony Joshua as he accuses Wilder of wasting his time while he was looking for a title shot.

“You know, what goes around, comes around,” Whyte told Sky Sports. “I ain’t got no sympathy for him, no chance. He’s messed me about and wasted my time.

“I was No 1 but none of that was relevant, basically Deontay Wilder just kept on avoiding me, and then now he thought he had the fight and then Joshua went the other way.

”Now he’s crying. He’s going to be so disheartened he may lose his next fight.”

Whyte had been vying for a shot at Wilder’s WBC belt but Wilder felt that Whyte was beneath him and didn’t see why he had to prove himself against Whyte in order to land a shot at Joshua. On top of that, Whyte was obviously a little bitter that he’s the WBC’s #1 contender and that Dominic Breazeale managed to get installed as Wilder’s mandatory challenger.

In the end the British fighter concludes by saying he hopes this lesson humbles Wilder and that he learns to take the fights presented to him instead of holding out for something bigger. And In the meanwhile Whyte will be taking on former titleholder Joseph Parker on July 28 at London’s O2 Arena.
