Registrations for the entire 105 municipalities of Yucatan are being snapped up, for the First “WILLIAM ABRAHAM DAGUER”, Amateur Tournament, to be held in honor of this Yucatecan, who was a great, inspirational promoter of Boxing.
The age limit ranges widely from 15 to 33 in different weight categories; and registrations close on December 20. In a press conference at Poliforum Zamna, which is an oasis of Yucatecan boxing, Fernando Sulaiman, representing the President of the World Boxing Council, stressed that this type of tournament is crucial to discover welling reservoirs of freshet talent.
Deputy Jorge Carlos Ramírez Marín, who represents the Yucatan, pointed out that amateur boxing is the spring to reach professional arena. He also pledged that the winners of this competition will have the opportunity to earn a Scholarship. Another exciting bonus is that the victors will progress to face fighters from the United States.
Attending Boxing Legends included Juan Herrera, Gustavo “Guty” Espadas, Gilberto Keb and Edgar Sosa. Plus special guest superstars Pipino Cuevas and Humberto “Chiquita” González.
The Sports Coordinator of this tournament, Guty Espadas Jr, gave a memorable tribute to William Abraham, stressing that he created, nurtured and supported Yucatan Boxing excellence, managing home grown world beaters.
