It looks as if the UFC’s return to the Australian city of Adelaide has its first matchup.
Reports from Combate and MMA Fighting have flyweights Wilson Reis and Ben Nguyen squaring off at the Adelaide Entertainment Center. The card will technically be December 2nd in Australia, but the time zone difference means it’ll air Saturday, December 1st in North America.
Reis (22-9) is a former flyweight title challenger who is in must-win territory. He was submitted by then-champion Demetrious Johnson in April 2017, knocked out by current champion Henry Cejudo, and most recently dropped a decision to John Moraga at UFC on FOX 29 in April. One more loss figures to be the end of the road for his time inside the Octagon.
Nguyen (16-7) is from the United States but resides and trains in Australia, so this is effectively a home bout for him. He’s looking to get back in the win column after he was dropped and choked out by Jussier Formiga at UFC 221, also in Australia. His most recent win was a surprisingly quick rear-naked choke of ex-title challenger Tim Elliott at UFC Auckland in June 2017.
No main event has been announced for UFC Adelaide.
