On Saturday night he`ll be fighting World Boxing Council international light heavyweight champion Joe Smith Jr. (23-1, 19 KOs) And for the first time in Sullivan’s life, his Father Rafael Barrera, will be present at ringside watching the match, and cheering on his son with all his might!
After a separation of eight years, Father and son met finally, hugging long and hard on Thursday. The 35-year-old from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, is beyond happy and exceedingly thrilled to finally have his Father in the United States and at his fight against Smith Jr.
“I have not seen Dad for eight years and it’s so very important for me. I want to dedicate this fight to him and I promise him that I will win,” vowed Sullivan.
“This is going to be a very interesting fight for my career, and maybe the most complicated one. I am well aware that if I defeat Smith I`ll be able to have a chance to contest a world title soon.”
The bout will be held at the Los Angeles Forum and will be broadcast live on HBO Boxing After Dark.
