WSOF-Global MMA needs more Filipino fighters

The World Series of Fighting-Global Championship (WSOF-GC) has officially installed itself as one of the major players in the Philippine mixed martial arts scene.

For its debut promotion on Saturday night (July 30), the Las Vegas-based MMA organization offered 12-round card that lived up to its explosive billing, highlighted by the world heavyweight championship between two fighters from Russia and America.

A sizeable crowd came to watch Russian Evgny Erokhin retain his crown via first-round knockout win over Richard Odoms and the Philippines’ favorite lady warrior Jujeath Nagaowa display her striking prowess to win lopsidedly against Japanese Yuko Kiryu.

Vince Hesser, co-owner of WSOF, was satisfied with the turnout that he promised to line up the second WSOF-GC event in Manila in March or April next year.

And this means additional choice and venue for Filipino MMA practitioners to display their wares.

“This will be good for Philippine fight scene. I’m sure more WSOF will tap more Filipino fighters to join their cards, not only here in the Philippines but also in countries where there are the presence of WSOF,” said noted fight promoter Brico Santig, who co-promoted the debut event at the Araneta Coliseum.

“This early, we urge MMA gyms to hone their top fighter so they can try out for fights abroad and the next WSOF promotion in Manila.”
