Khalid Yafai and Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez met for their last press conference before their fight, which will take place this Saturday at The Ford Center at The Star, in Frisco, Texas. The British Champion will defend his Super Flyweight Championship of the World Boxing Association (WBA) against the Nicaraguan boxer, and both talked to the press about the fight.

Yafai begins to make a name for himself in the United States and will exhibit the black and gold belt against the experienced Gonzalez in an unbeatable setting.

“Gonzalez is my idol, but I will keep this title for the United Kingdom. I’m sure it will be a great fight,” the champion said and also thanked his promoters and his entire work team for everything that is happening in his career.

For his part, “Chocolatito” seeks to claim and recover a World Championship after losing it in 2017. The Nicaraguan boxer plans to return to the top of boxing and now he has a great opportunity in front of him.

“I thank my family, my team and the promoters. But mainly I thank my friend Yafai for giving me the opportunity to fight again for a World Championship. I’m in my best shape, there’s no such a thing as a small rival, they all are good. I come with the God’s blessing to win on Saturday,” an enthusiastic Gonzalez said before shaking hands with his rival in gratitude.

They both complied with the last promotional steps this Wednesday but then they will have to pass the weighing scale on Friday. Once they show a weight of 115 pounds for the division, they will be qualified for the WBA World Title fight.

Yafai has a record of 26 wins, no losses and 15 knockouts. Gonzalez has a record of 48 wins, 2 losses and 40 knockouts.
