This morning on “Coffee Tuesdays” we talked via Zoom with the WBC super bantamweight champion Yamileth Mercado who on Saturday will make the second defense of her crown against the dangerous American Angélica Rascón.
Yamileth who was extremely enthusiastic to return to the ring and defend her crown, this time with a 50 percent capacity claiming this is very gratifying, as she knows that her family, friends, and her people will be with her.
She assured me that the injury to her eardrum is now in the past, as she did not start any training until she was fully healed.
The champion also pointed out that she does not accept any fight unless she has adequate time to prepare for it, since in the end it is she who climbs into the ring and risks her life.
About her rival, Yamileth commented that she has not seen her fighting and that in reality, she does not know her style; However, she knows that all rivals are dangerous and needs to give her very best.
She also commented that the only thing she asked for this defense is that her rival show the necessary respect for this great event, for her and especially for the World Boxing Council, so she trusts that Angelica will honor this commitment.
Regarding a possible fight with Jackie Nava, Mercado stated that this would be a very interesting contest and an honor to be able to face an icon of women’s boxing; However, she clarified that she first needs to fulfill her mandatory defense.
Yamileth invited all boxing fans not to miss out on this great fight because she, will give everything concerning efforts, letting her fists do the talking.
