Mike Perry needs a new opponent for UFC 226.
Sources confirmed with MMA Fighting’s Shaun Al-Shatti that a broken rib has forced Yancy Medeiros to withdraw from his welterweight bout with Perry scheduled for the preliminaries of the July 7 event at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
MMAjunkie was first to report that Medeiros was injured, while ESPN reported the rib injury.
UFC officials are actively seeking a replacement to fight Perry.
Medeiros (15-5, 1 NC) was looking to bounce back from a first-round TKO loss to Donald Cerroneat UFC Austin, his first defeat since moving up to the welterweight division in September 2016. Prior to the “Cowboy” fight, Medeiros had recorded three consecutive wins by knockout or submission.
Perry (11-3) has dropped his last two fights by unanimous decision, most recently being defeated by Max Griffin in February. All 11 of his wins have come by way of knockout.
