A sensational middleweight bout between Paulo Costa and former title contender Yoel Romero is in talks for UFC 230 at New York’s Madison Square Garden on Nov. 3.
The UFC announced the matchup Tuesday on social media, however the bout has yet to be formally agreed upon by both parties, sources told MMA Fighting.
Costa (13-0) recently scored his fourth knockout victory since joining the UFC by stopping Uriah Hall in the second round at UFC 226. In his previous appearances, “Eraser” finished Johnny Hendricks, Oluwale Bamgbose and Garreth McLellan.
Romero (13-3) is looking to get back on track after a five-round war with middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 225. “Soldier of God”, who went 0-2 against the current champion over the past 12 months, has beaten the likes of Luke Rockhold, Ronaldo Souza, Lyoto Machida and Chris Weidman throughout his UFC career.
UFC 230 airs live on pay-per-view. The promotion has yet to announce the main event. The first fight made official for the card was “Jacare” Souza vs. David Branch.
