The super featherweight Californian prospect Ryan Garcia won the most important victory of his young career, experienced, seasoned and battle hardened Puerto Rican Jayson “Maravilla” Vélez, to conquer the NABF super featherweight title.
It was the entertaining main battle of a card organized by Golden Boy Promotions, at the StubHub Center in Carson, California.
As expected, Velez was a tough as old boots opponent for Garcia, who’s one of the most promising youngsters out of the Golden State. But at the end of 10 rounds of intense action, the pert 19-year-old from Los Angeles pertinently ended up winning on all three cards with identical scores of 99-91.
A smart bit of matchmaking as Vélez was a stern test for García. He never gave ground, pressed and demanded much from Garcia learned appreciably more of how to navigate in choppy waters.
With this victory, Garcia improved his record to 15-0, with 13 knockouts, while Vélez saw his record edge to 26-5-1, with 18 knockouts.
