In an entertaining bout at the Gymnase la salamandre, Pont-Sainte-Maxence of Oise, France, local fighter Yvan Mendy (38-4-1, 18 KO’S) defeated brave Argentine Javier Jose Clavero (21-3-0, 5 KO’S) to conquer the WBC lightweight Silver belt.
Mendy was more active and with greater initiative and even though Clavero was connecting, he simply didn`t have the same consistent precision. At the end of the fourth round, the Judges scored IT 40-36, 39-37 and 39-37, with Mendy in the front.
Clavero tried to modify the strategy but upping the pace but Yvan prevailed, remaining in firm control. At the end of round 8 the scores of the judges were 80-72, 79-73 and 79-73.
The final scores were 120-108, 119-109, and 118-110, all in favor of Mendy, who`s taken another important step towards the WBC’s absolute championship.
