WBA #9 lightweight, WBO #4 jr welterweight contender José “Chon” Zepeda (30-1, 25 KOs) scored a seventh round TKO over Domicio Rondón (15-6, 10 KOs) on Saturday night at the Gimnasio Municipal in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico. The referee waved it off at 1:53 of round seven after a barrage of unanswered punches by Zepeda.
“I am ready to fight for the world title,” stated Zepeda afterward. “My promoter Fernando Beltrán has assured me that it will be my next fight. I’m happy. I felt very strong and was always in control of the fight.”
In the co-feature, American bantamweight Dewayne “Mr. Stop” Beamon (16-1-1, 11 KOs) scored an eight round unanimous decision over Martín Tecuapetla (15-10-4, 10 KOS). Scores were 79-73, 78-74, 78-74.
