For WBC 76th edition, we greeted specialists who told us about the importance of including sport in education.

Teachers Francisco Ruiz, Maritza RodrΓguez and HΓ©ctor Bache said that physical activity must be a fundamental part of the life of any human being, since it not only helps us to develop physically but also helps us to develop psychomotor, to relate, to follow some rules, working in a team, recognizing the importance of personal effort and setting goals.

They explained that sport has multiple health benefits, but also in the psychological or personality sphere since team sports help to strengthen social self-esteem and allow us to understand the importance of norms and respect for rules.

Maritza says it is imperative to realize that education is a great leap and to see it not only as a recreational element but also as a formative one since the sport has been shown to be the path to social transformation.

They explained that it is not only about physical development but about exploring and exploiting educational value, leading towards self-improvement goals, where the internalization of rules, solidarity, and cooperation with others is promoted and encouraged.

Another strength Involves the value of resilience, which we can call upon the capacity of human beings to adapt positively to adverse situations. And that is precisely a Life lesson that sport gives us since it is to understand that anyone can overcome a setback. The example of Saul Álvarez, who after having a loss against Floyd Mayweather, showed that he had the ability to reinvent himself and return to the path of success. They agreed that sport is the window towards inclusion.

HΓ©ctor Bache Sports director of Special Olympics explained that this is a clear example because this is the largest sports movement in the world. It is where people with intellectual disabilities are integrated into society so that they can reach their physical and mental potential, within a framework of respect, acceptance, and equity, supporting their families and serving as a bridge with other organizations.

Our panelists urged all educational institutions to give the sport its importance, priority, and place in development since its span encompasses so much more than a recreational activity. If you missed an interesting talk, here is the link so you can listen to our experts.
