Yoshihiro Kamegai will return to the ring to face Daquan Pauldo (formerly known as Daquan Arnett) on January 27, part of the non-televised undercard for that evening’s Golden Boy Promotions card at The Forum in Inglewood.

The two main fights on the show — Lucas Matthysse vs Tewa Kiram and Jorge Linares vs Mercito Gesta — will air on HBO.

Kamegai (27-4-2, 24 KO) has built a reputation in recent years as one of the toughest guys in boxing, not necessarily a top fighter by any means, but a hard-headed, action-first scrapper at 147 and now 154. He most recently fought in August, getting blown out by Miguel Cotto, but Cotto couldn’t put him away inside the distance, and nobody else has been able to, either.

Pauldo (16-1, 9 KO) is still a prospect worth keeping an eye on, and this is a big fight for him. He’s only 25, and his lone loss came to Eddie Gomez back in 2014. Gomez, also a prospect at that time, has gone just 4-3 since then, but Pauldo has gone 5-0, and a win over someone like Kamegai would be a nice step for him to start 2018.
