Adonis Stevenson, the WBC light heavyweight champion, says that if Tony Bellew upsets Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday in Manchester, he’d love to rematch Bellew for the undisputed cruiserweight championship — but he expects Usyk to win.
“I would like it if he wins. If he does win, I can fight him up at cruiserweight and beat him as a cruiserweight for the titles. If I can fight for all four belts, I would like it. I would prefer to fight for them at catchweight, but I am the lineal champion at light-heavyweight, so I would like four more belts. … Usyk has the edge. He won the big World Boxing Super Series tournament and I think he will give Bellew the L.”
Stevenson (29-1-1, 24 KO) beat Bellew pretty handily at 175 pounds back in 2013, stopping him in six rounds, but Bellew (30-2-1, 20 KO) has found greater success at cruiserweight, winning a world title before moving to heavyweight for a pair of star-making victories over David Haye.
As for right now, Stevenson has a full plate with mandatory challenger Oleksandr Gvozdyk (15-0, 12 KO) his next opponent on Dec. 1 in Quebec City, a fight which will air on Showtime before the Wilder-Fury pay-per-view that same evening.
