DAVAO CITY — Filipino boxer Nelson Tinampay will fight for the interim WBC Eurasia Pacific Boxing Council lightweight title against come backing Korean Young Soo Choi on February 5 at the Hilton Hotel in Seoul, South Korea.
Tinampay (11-3-1-5 KOs), a native of Bohol is accompanied by his trainer Victor Man-on and manager Brico Santig of Highlands Promotions. He previously stopped Rey dela Cruz in the 2nd round by a technical knockout last October 9 in Bohol.
Tinampay also fought but lost for the WBC Youth World super lightweight title via a unanimous decision against Baishanbo Nasiyiwula last year in China.
Young, who is already 44 years old, made a successful comeback by scoring an 8th round TKO win against Japan’s Kazuya Nakano last April 16 in South Korea.
Prior to his short retirement, Young lost by a UD to Thailand’s Sirimongkhon Iamthuam in their battle for the WBC World super featherweight title held Jan. 13, 2003 in Tokyo, Japan.
“Kahit na nawala siya sa boxing for 13 years, nakabalik pa rin siya. Malakas pa rin pala kaya hindi puedeng magkumpiyansa sa Koreano,” said Tinampay, who is younger by 20 years.
Tinampay also fought by lost to Jonel Gadapan by retirement in the 6th round in their fight for the vacant WBF Asia Pacific lightweight title last Jan. 31, 2016 in Lanao del Norte.
