Darren Till: ‘90% of people’ can’t wait for me to lose to Stephen Thompson

Since his big win over Donald Cerrone last October, Darren Till has been riding on a massive hype. While many have been singing his praises, a lot of observers also perceive him to be a bit overvalued.

For his part, Till is also aware that he does have a good number of haters, but has absolutely no concern for them or what they think.

“Mate, I can tell you right now that 90% of people can’t wait for me to lose on May 27 to Wonderboy, they want the so-called hype train to stop,” Till said on a recent interview on theTSN MMA Show (transcript via MMA NYTT). “I can’t tell you how many happy faces there are going to be if I get beat, but do you think I give a f—k about them? I couldn’t give a f—k about what anyone thinks, what my Mum thinks, what anyone [thinks].”

“I’m putting in the hard work and putting my body through pain and pressure, so if people want to see me lose, ok, if people want to see me win, ok, it doesn’t matter as long as they tune in to see an absolute war.”

If Till does defeat Stephen Thompson in their upcoming headliner fight in Liverpool, he expects to be placed in front of the line of contenders waiting for a title shot. He recognizes that it will take some effort to get to where he wants to be, but at the same time, he is assured that he will be able to get the job done.

“There are other guys that deserve it before me, so I just want to beat Wonderboy and let the welterweight division take it’s course because sooner or later I know it’s going to end up with me having the belt,” Till said.

“When I beat Wonderboy I feel like I want to take on Colby Covington, Kamaru Usman, RDA,Jorge Masvidal, one of those guys. When I beat Wonderboy those are the guys that I’m looking at next.

UFC Fight Night: Liverpool takes place on May 27th and will be co-headlined by a welterweight fight between Neil Magny and Gunnar Nelson.
