Professional boxing in India is about to get a massive boost with the formation of the WBC India championships, under the umbrella of the World Boxing Council, with a view to offering a platform of cosmetic success for aspiring boxers in India.

The right to be crowned the inaugural WBC India champion will go to two of the country’s finest lightweight boxers as Chandni Mehra is set to face off against Suman Kumari for the WBC India lightweight title. LZ Boxing promotions will host this historic moment for boxing in India.

Mehra goes into the championship showdown with a professional record of seven fights and two losses since turning to the pro ranks in 2018. For her part, Kumari is 4-3-1 in her professional boxing career.

LZ founder Parm Goraya stated, “I’ve been a boyhood fan of the WBC, their Champions, and the beautiful green/gold belt growing up in England. On a professional level, I’m totally honored to be given the WBCs first-ever Indian Championship fight at my inaugural event on 1 May 2021. Chandni Mehra and Suman Kumari are two great female ambassadors for girls, women in life, and boxing.

I’m excited by this fight as we have two Indian number one’s in their respective weight divisions putting their reputation on the line. Hopefully, in the future, we can encourage more females to join the sport. To personally count great fighters like Lennox Lewis, Amir Khan, Jeff Fenech, Jorge Linares as brothers is a blessing and such a confidence booster for the kids and aspiring boxers of India.

LZ Promotions embarks on a journey to build a long-term professional platform, work with the Indian grassroots and the Boxing Federation of India {BFI) to change the face of boxing. Promoting India’s first-ever professional World Champion (male and female) is the driving force for Parm Goraya. I would like to thank the WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman and the WBC Asian Committee for their support and honor of the WBC India Lightweight Championship.”

On behalf of the World Boxing Council, its President Mauricio Sulaiman, and the WBC Board of Governors, we wish both fighters the best of luck for this ground-breaking encounter in Indian boxing history.
