It’s not quite a home fight, but Aljamain Sterling won’t have to travel far for his next UFC bout.
Newsday reported that Long Island’s Sterling will take on rising bantamweight prospect Brett Johns at UFC Fight Night 128 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The night’s main card airs live on Fox Sports 1, although it’s not yet known if Sterling-Johns will be on the main card or the prelims.
Sterling (14-3) last fought in December, suffering a vicious KO loss vs. Marlon Moraes, marking the first stoppage defeat of his career. The 28-year-old had previously picked up victories over Augusto Mendes and former UFC champ Renan Barao before the Moraes defeat.
Johns (15-0) has fought three times under the UFC banner, but in his last fight against Joe Soto, the Welshman picked up his first finish inside the Octagon, spectacularly submitting Soto with the rarely-seen calf slicer in just 30 seconds. The former Titan FC champion also has wins over Kwan Ho Kwak and Albert Morales.
UFC Fight Night: Atlantic City will happen on Saturday, April 21st. No main event has been named, although the biggest matchup currently booked for that card is a middleweight bout between David Branch and Thiago Santos.
