ASTROLABIO NEEDS NEW OPPONENT AFTER YU GOT INJURED

DAVAO CITY, Philippines — The undefeated Vincent Astrolabio of MP Davao Gym is now looking for a new opponent after Raul “Vulcan” Yu of ALA Stable got injured during his training for their championship fight for the vacant Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (Minproba) junior bantamweight crown on July 24 at the South Cotabato Sports Complex in Koronadal City.
“Na-injured daw siya (Yu) kaya humahanap kami ngayon ng bagong kalaban ni Astrolabio,” (He got injured that is why we are now looking for a new opponent for Astrolabio) said Vanessa Neri, wife of promoter Raides “Nonoy” Neri of MP Davao Promotions.
Yu, a native of Buenavista, Agusan del Sur been training hard at the ALA Boxing Gym in Cebu.
After two successive split draws with Ricardo Sueno in Cebu in 2015, Yu then won three straight stoppages against Ronnie Campos (3rd rd TKO), Robert Ates (2nd rd TKO) and Paul Varona (2nd rd KO).
The 23-year old Yu, however, previously dropped a unanimous decision to Jade Bornea in their battle for the vacant IBF Youth super flyweight title last February 26 at the Lagao Gym in Gensan.
Astrolabio (8-0, 7 KOs) previously stopped Nicardo Calamba by a technical knockout in the second last May 12 during the GAB Philippine Boxing Convention held at the Waterfront Insular Hotel in Davao City.
The 20-year old hard puncher from General Santos City also knocked out a veteran Renante Suacasa in the 8th round last December 17 at the Robinson’s Mall in Gensan. Astrolabio broke the jaw of Suacasa which resulted to his early retirement in boxing.
Astrolabio made his pro debut by stopping Arige Emendo via a 1st round technical knockout in 2015 at SM Davao. He then TKO’d then undefeated Bener Santig in the 3rd round on that same year in Taguig City.
Astrolabio continued his knockout power last year by stopping Lowell Saguisa (1st round) in Manila and Jun Eraham (5th round) in M’lang, North Cotabato.
It was only Suacasa, who survived but still lost by a unanimous decision in their first encounter held June 4, 2016 at the Almendras Gym in Davao City. Astrolabio then knocked out Marlou Sandoval in the second round later on August 23 in Kidapawan before he finally pummeled to submission Saucasa in their rematch.
