GEN. SANTOS CITY – The official weigh-in for the “Bakbakan sa Pres. Roxas” is on Friday, Sept. 16 at 10 a.m. at the Municipal Gym of Pres. Roxas in North Cotabato.
“The fights this Saturday will start at 1 p.m. with five amateur bouts before the professional bouts,” said promoter Jilson Basang of MB Boxing Promotions.
The boxing event is supported by Prex. Roxas Mayor Jaime Mahimpit and sponsored by Nature’s Spring Water and Dawns Catering.
“Our aim of MB Promotions is to value people, scouting talents in Mindanao and bring (them) to Singapore as we aim to make Singapore as the Las Vegas in Asia for boxing events,” said Basang, a native of Davao.
Basang’s co-owner of MB Boxing Promotions is Singaporean-citizen Erwin Maderazo from Cebu City.
“Security is already assured by the police, in and out of the venue,” said Basang.
The Philippine National Police in Pres Roxas is headed by Police Senior Inspector Romy Castanares. The Provincial Health office will be providing a standby ambulance with oxygen and stretchers.
The main event will feature former WBO Asia Pacific Youth bantamweight champion and former Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) bantamweight champion Glenn “The Promised Rock” Porras of M’lang against former Minproba bantamweight champion Renante Suacasa of Koronadal City in the main event.
The co-main event will have hometown hero Arnold Garde (6-3-2) against Ian Ligutan (6-4-2) of Bayabas, Surigao del Sur in the light flyweight division.
Pitted in the undercard are Joey Antonio against Jessie Boyles; Sonny Basanez vs. Hagibis Quinones; Arnold Montales vs. Rogelio Boyles.
