Dave McWater, manager of Ivan Baranchyk, appears to have had a productive conference call. Mike Coppinger reports that “The Beast” has reached “agreement in principle” with World Boxing Super Series organizers and will fight Josh Taylor in Glasgow on May 18th.

He had originally withdrawn from the tournament in January over both financial concerns and its inability to put together the semifinals in a timely manner

Baranchyk (19-0, 12 KO), who recently joined forces with Freddie Roach, scored 10 knockouts in 11 fights before a four-fight decision streak, having seemingly plateaued as a fun but deeply flawed bruiser. He battered the legit Petr Petrov in March of 2018, however, and looked devastating against former Olympic qualifier Anthony Yigit in the WBSS quarterfinals last October.

Though Taylor (14-0, 12 KO) remains a heavy favorite, this is a quality super lightweight battle that should produce plenty of excitement. Here’s hoping Baranchyk has stayed in the gym while dealing with all of this.
