Boxer Landero’s body found in Negros

The lifeless body of boxer Robert “Toto” Landero was found already at the Barangay Canlamay in Negros Occidental yesterday.

According to his manager Dante Almario of Muntinlupa City, Landero was trying to cross the river when he was drifted by the strong current last July 4 at Barangay Canlamay Ilog.

He was coming home from Barangay Balicotoc from a sideline job with his father.

In his last fight, Landero lost to Christian Araneta by a unanimous decision last June 17 in Mandaue City. He immediately went home to Negros last July 18.

Landero’s wife is Rhe Ann Landero while they have three children.

“I will raise funds for the family. Toto was my ina-anak in his wedding, he was a very kind and good boxer,” said Almario.

Landero was twice a world title challenger.

He first lost to Thammanoon Niyomtrong by a unanimous decision for the World Boxing Association world minimumweight title last March 6, 2018 in Thailand.

Landero also failed in challenging Simpiwe Konkco for the International Boxing Federation World minimumweight title last July 22, 2018 in South Africa.

Landero also lost in two championship fights. He bowed to Tibo Monabesa of Indonesia by a unanimous decision for the vacant WBC International light flyweight title last April 14, 2021 in Jakarta.

Landero dropped by a unanimous decision to Melvin Jerusalem for the OPBF minimumweight title last July 16, 2021 in Talisay City.
